What is the ‘Links’ tab used for in the Goldmine Contact Window?

Answer:  The ‘Links’ tab is for linking external documents and email attachments to the Goldmine record.  eMail attachments will be automatically linked, MS Word documents created from within Goldmine are also automatically linked. Once they are linked, you can double click on any document in the list and it will open up the document to the screen.

Also, you can manually create links to graphic files, CAD files, spreadsheets, etc. Follow these simple steps:

Right click in the Links tab area and choose ‘New’ from the pop-up menu.  A window will open and you can give your document a name and description.  In the bottom box, browse to the document that you want to add.  Click OK.

Drag & drop method:  With the folder that contains the document that you want to add visible on the screen, simply drag the document into the Links tab area of the Goldmine record.  This will open up the dialog box and all you need to do is give the document a name.

We have all of our documents related to each client in a folder with the clients name on it.  Can we link the folder instead of each individual document?

Answer:  YES!  Just use the ‘drag & drop’ method named above.  Grab the whole folder & Goldmine will create the link to the folder itself.

Can we link documents from ScanSoft PaperPort?

Answer:  There are 2 methods of doing this, depending on which version of PaperPort you own.  There is a freeware software add-on called PaperPort Link which allowed you to create links from within PaperPort to the Goldmine Contact Record.  This link was designed for PaperPort Version 4, but continued to function correctly up to Version 8.

In version 10 of PaperPort, you can use the ‘drag & drop’ method to get documents into Goldmine.
